COMBIO Project: A Collaboration Between ROBEEC and the Rwanda Forestry Authority
They came from five districts of Rwanda’s Eastern Province, driven by a shared ambition: to learn and build their future in beekeeping.
At ROBEEC, these 25 students from the COMBIO project became the first external cohort to join the African BEEkeeping Academy (ABEEA), through a collaboration initiated with Enabel and now supervised by the Rwanda Forestry Authority under the Ministry of Environment.
Designed as a 30-day program, the training combined structured theoretical courses with practical sessions in school apiaries, providing full immersion in modern, professional, and bee-friendly beekeeping practices.
Today, support continues in the field through dedicated technical follow-up aimed at strengthening acquired knowledge, refining practical skills, and increasing the independence of young beekeepers.
Throughout this journey, students develop much more than technical skills: they build a professional mindset, lasting confidence, and a responsible vision of beekeeping.
Collaboration entre ROBEEC et l’UNESCO pour le projet UNESCO-Guerlain Women for Bees
ROBEEC Ltd., à travers sa branche de formation ABEEA, est fier de collaborer avec l’UNESCO dans la mise en œuvre du projet UNESCO-Guerlain Women for Bees au Rwanda.
This partnership supports the training of women beneficiaries in professional and sustainable beekeeping while contributing to the development and strengthening of the project’s apiaries within the Gishwati-Mukura Biosphere Reserve.
As part of this collaboration, ROBEEC has delivered intensive training combining theory and practical field experience, covering essential topics such as colony management, apiary establishment, bee biology, honey production, and environmental observation. The program also includes continuous technical follow-up in the field to help beneficiaries build confidence, strengthen their skills, and improve the performance of their colonies.
Through this initiative, ROBEEC and UNESCO share a common commitment to women’s empowerment, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable rural development through beekeeping.
Collaboration entre ROBEEC et l'UNCHR - PLAN International pour Soutenir les réfugiés grâce à la formation en apiculture
Through its collaboration with Plan International Rwanda under the SBCC-N project, which aims to improve nutrition, strengthen livelihoods, and promote self-reliance within refugee communities, ROBEEC is currently training 40 young people from the refugee camps of Kigeme Refugee Camp and Mugombwa Refugee Camp in modern beekeeping practices. After completing theoretical lessons within their camps, students are now carrying out practical work in two school apiaries of 20 hives each, specially established for them. These apiaries provide a safe and suitable environment where participants can observe colonies, handle hives, and apply the knowledge they have gained.
These school apiaries allow young people to develop practical beekeeping skills and, ultimately, produce honey to improve the living conditions of their families. Through this collaboration, ROBEEC contributes to strengthening self-reliance and livelihoods within refugee communities while promoting ethical and sustainable beekeeping practices.
